Getting moss off shingle roof.
In the seams use the sharp edge of the scraper like a dental pick to force out the moss.
To keep the algae from coming back insert 6 inch wide strips of zinc or copper under the row of shingling closest to the roof peak leaving an inch or two of the lower edge exposed to the weather.
Carefully place a ladder near the area of moss growth and don slip resistant shoes old clothes rubber gloves and eye.
Don t be tempted to rush getting the moss off faster by having someone power wash your roof or scrub in the bleach solution or brush or scrape off the moss even though you may find advice on.
You can try brushing off algae and moss with a brush or broom with medium stiff bristles but don t scrub too hard.
But only use cleaners that have no bleach in them the non bleach restorers for decks work well.
Then use either a product specifically designed as a roof shingle cleaner or a deck cleaner.
A homemade cleaner of one part liquid chlorine bleach to one part of water can also be effective in removing and killing moss that clings to the roof tiles.
Stop roof algae from coming back.
You don t want to separate the mineral granules from the shingles.
Work on one small section at a time which allows you better control of the brush and your scrubbing motions.
If accumulations of algae or moss are heavy at least some of it should wash off the roof surface right away with the stream from the hose.
Hose off and brush all moss loose from your roof shingles.
Apply liquid cleaners with a hand pump sprayer or with a pressure washer on the lowest setting so as not to cause any damage to the shingles.
To get rid of moss first carefully scrape off any thick moss without scraping hard on the shingles.

Climb up to the roof and begin scraping off dead moss from the shingles using a putty knife or painter s 5 in 1 tool and working from the bottom up.
